Maintenance & Support
Software does not stay finished. Dependencies age, security advisories arrive, and small issues accumulate. We provide ongoing maintenance for web and mobile applications — ours and other people’s — under straightforward monthly retainers with response expectations we put in writing.
What we do
A maintenance retainer with us covers the unglamorous work that keeps production software healthy: monitoring and alerting, dependency and framework updates, security patches, backups verification, and fixing the bugs that surface in normal use. Retainers can also include a budget of hours for small improvements, so minor feature requests do not require a new project every time.
We are deliberately careful about promises. We are a small senior team, not a 24/7 operations centre, and we do not claim certifications we do not hold. What we commit to is written into the agreement: defined response times during European business hours, a named engineer who knows your system, and honest escalation when something needs more than a quick fix.
In scope
- Uptime and error monitoring with alerting
- Dependency, framework, and runtime updates on a regular schedule
- Security patching when advisories affect your stack
- Bug fixes and a monthly allowance for small improvements
How we work
Before a retainer starts, we need to actually know your system — otherwise response commitments are empty words.
1. Onboarding review
We read the codebase, review the infrastructure, set up monitoring if it is missing, and write down what we find, including risks you should know about.
2. Agreement
We agree the retainer scope in writing: monthly hours, response expectations by severity, and what counts as in and out of scope.
3. Steady rhythm
Updates and patches land on a regular cadence. You get a short monthly summary of what was done, what was deferred, and why.
4. Review and adjust
Retainers are reviewed periodically. If you consistently need fewer hours, we say so and scale down; if the system needs more, you hear it early.
What you get
A retainer is a relationship, but the concrete deliverables matter too.
Written response expectations
Agreed response times by severity during European business hours — realistic, and honoured.
Monitoring
Alerting on downtime and errors, so we usually know about problems before your users tell you.
Update log
A monthly record of dependency updates, patches, and fixes applied to your system.
A team that knows your code
No ticket roulette. The engineers maintaining your system are the same people month to month.
Typical engagements
Maintenance retainers usually take one of these forms:
Keep-alive retainer
A small monthly engagement for a stable system: monitoring, updates, patches, and occasional fixes.
Active support
A larger retainer for a product in active use, including improvement hours and regular releases.
Post-handover support
Continued support after we (or another team) built the system, tapering as your team takes over.
Frequently asked questions
Do you maintain software you did not build?
Yes — a large share of our maintenance work is on inherited systems. We start with an onboarding review so we understand what we are committing to. For codebases in genuinely poor shape, see our bug fixing and codebase rescue service, which is designed to precede a retainer.
What are your response times?
They are agreed per contract rather than advertised as a blanket promise. As a working baseline: acknowledgement of critical production issues within a few business hours in European time zones, with non-critical issues scheduled into the normal cadence. We would rather commit to less and deliver it reliably.
What happens if we exceed the monthly hours?
Nothing silently. We flag it before it happens, and you decide whether to defer work, approve extra hours at the agreed rate, or adjust the retainer.
Can we cancel or pause the retainer?
Yes, with the notice period in the agreement — typically one to two months. You keep all documentation, monitoring configuration, and access; nothing about the setup depends on us staying.
Sounds like your project?
Tell us what you need and we’ll reply with a clear next step: questions we’d ask, a rough scope, and an honest view of whether we’re the right fit.
